Early Fall 2025 Media Changes

Jeremy Levy back with you to write more about Radio, TV, and Podcast changes for the Fall of 2025. As always if you have things that you would like me to cover, you can e-mail me at Jeremymlevy@gmail.com. I will try and get it in the next issue of the blog.

These first 3 stories on the blog are not as happy as some of the stories I have covered in past blogs. Let’s start with a couple of national stories. Back in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s, there was a news radio anchor who worked for CBS news named Mark Noller. He was the Washington correspondent for the national CBS news. He had a distinctive voice. When people listened to him you knew it was Mark Noller. Mark passed away from a long illness. People at CBS news radio and listeners will miss him. He was the correspondent for 4 presidents.

A story from August that I would like to cover is: James Dobson the president of Focus on the family passed away. He was 89. In the future, I will be writing a blog post about my memories of Dr. James Dobson.

There is a third sad story. Charlie Kirk, who was a national host for Salem Communications has passed away after being shot at a college campus in Utah. Charlie leaves behind a wife, and a couple of small kids. Charlie was in his 30’s. This is heart breaking for all of his whole family. Dave Ramsey said on his show on September 10 that he had done some conferences with him and he really liked him. R-I-P Charlie.  People will really miss you. I didn’t really listen to his show, but I heard some of his commercials on 710 KNUS radio and 1460 the answer. I liked his voice in those commercials.  Many of the local hosts on 710 KNUS knew him and liked to listen to him.  Jon Caldara was on for Dan Caplis on September 10th and said that Charlie was similar to Mike Rosen in that many people disagreed with him. Jon thought that Charlie had some good arguments for the people that called in. Mike Boyle said on his show that he really liked Charlie Kirk’s show.   Charlie was on from 10-noon on 710 KNUS radio.

Dan Caplis was in trial from August 18th through September 23rd, and this was a pretty important trial. He was in the mountains. Dan had some great fill ins. George Brauchler, and Kristi Berton Brown were two of my favorites.

Switching to a happier story: there are a couple of additions to NPR radio. NPR announced that, effective Sept. 29, Scott Detrow will become a full-time weekday host of All Things Considered, joining the current cast of weekday hosts, Ailsa Chang, Mary Louise Kelly, and Juana Summers. It was recently announced that weekday host Ari Shapiro is departing NPR. His last day will be Oct. 1. Since May 2023, Detrow has served as weekend host of All Things Considered and co-host of NPR's daily news podcast, Consider This -- a role he will retain. Detrow joined NPR in 2015 and has covered the White House, Congress, and two presidential campaigns for the Washington Desk, where he also co-hosted the NPR Politics Podcast for seven years.

Detrow has spent his entire career in public radio, starting as a reporter in the newsroom at WFUV in the Bronx while a student at Fordham University. He went on to worked for several years as a statehouse reporter for member stations WITF/Harrisburg, PA and KQED/San Francisco. Detrow's first full-time job after college was as WITF's local host of All Things Considered.  "I'm really excited and honored to step into this role," said Detrow. "I'm mindful of just how important All Things Considered's legacy is for listeners, and I also know just how much I've loved working with the show's team these past two years on weekends. I can't wait to bring listeners the news five days a week now. And at this moment where we are all focusing on strengthening the entire public media network and working together more closely than ever before, I'm proud that I started out as an ATC host at an NPR Member station, and now will be doing that job nationally." This is interesting news there.  Riland Barton has joined NPR radio as a news anchor and reporter. This is good news. She will be helping with PM news casts. NPR also announced the appointment of Thomas Evans as Editor in Chief and Marta McLellan Ross as Chief of Staff. Mike Lamp has retired from Colorado Public radio. Mike had hosted the morning news programs for many years. Good luck to him in his retirement.

 Thanks for tuning in.
